To Kill A Mockingbird: Book Review!

For Honors English 3-4, we read a WONDERFUL book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This book was based off a history story, The Scottsboro Trial. The Scottsboro trial was about 9 black boys accused of raping two women on a train. Harper Lee was inspired to write her book, To Kill A Mockingbird, like I said above :). At first, I wasn't sure if I'd like this book. I really liked the last book I read for Honors English, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. (I really should read more book besides Honors English ones, but I never have time :( ) As I read the first couple chapters, I instantly LOVED the book. The characters I pictured were REAL and I could see them in my head. It took place in the town of Maycomb in Alabama, 1935. So, they had southern accents and when dialog came up, I would read it in a southern accent to get the feel of how they actually said it and how Harper Lee wrote it and read it in her mind. My favorite characters were Scout and Dill. Of course, Scout was the main character and the narrator, but what's not to love about Scout? She is lively and bubbly and spunky. She is a tomboy and is very curious. I pictured her as a blonde, a cute little blonde girl. But in the movie, the actress who played Scout wasn't blonde. She was still cute, but not what I was expecting. Anyway, yes, Scout and Dill are my favorite characters because they were a wee couple. A little mini couple. Even though they are only 7, Scout and Dill are 'engaged'. It's cute, like childhood sweethearts. Things like that make me smile. Harper wrote the court room scene very well! I have never really watched Judge Judy or whatever those 'judge' shows are, but I get the 'jist' of what goes on in a court room, and it was written very well. I haven't seen the court room in the movie yet, because we haven't gotten that far in class, but I have heard that they did a wonderful job with the court room scene. I'm excited to see it! You'll have to read the book to find out what this is all about! I do recommend it!In Honors English, one of our assignments was to draw and color a map of Maycomb. I dreaded it at first, but I figured it out.It's not the most beautiful piece of work, but it's something I'm proud of. I did some details and I had all the requirements on my map. There is some color, so it's not boring. I'm just happy I got a got a good grade on it. To Kill A Mockingbird was a fantastic read!I plan to read The Hunger Games next :)
