Top Tips for Choosing Your Bridal Jewelry

Posted on the 26 October 2015 by Genzelkisses

When people think of jewelry associated with weddings, the first thing that comes to mind is the wedding band - and rightly so, as it's one of the most important elements of the celebration. Unfortunately, this often means that brides don't give too much thought to the other accessories they'll be wearing on their big day, and it leaves them a bit flustered. Worry not, I have some tips to help you pick out the perfect bridal jewelry!

Mix the Old with the New
We've all heard of wearing "something old" at a wedding, and this applies to your wedding jewelry too! As Urvi Tejani tells the Huffington Post, mixing old pieces with new acquisitions can be a great way to represent your personality. "This is the perfect opportunity to blend your something borrowed (think: heirloom) with a new piece," she says. "You can incorporate your grandma's vintage brooch or your mom's favorite bracelet and still exercise your style."

Don't Forget to Do Your Hair
It's easy to think that jewelry is nothing more than a necklace and some earrings, but as Wedding Ideas explains, one of the most important pieces is actually your hair accessory! This is something meant to compliment the veil and add that bit of detail as well, so it's important to pick hair accessories that you're comfortable with. If you're not used to wearing hair accessories, Wedding Ideas says, "If you get the opportunity, try on as many different hair accessories as you can because they tend to look very different in the hair. You may end up falling in love with something that didn't catch your eye to begin with."

Wear Items You Like, But Don't Overdo It
If you're a fan of jewelry in general, you may have a lot of pieces already stocked up for you to choose from. It's a great idea to wear your favorite pieces, but you have to remember to match your jewelry to the occasion - especially if your jewelry style is a bit eclectic! For example, you'd want to stay away from "sculptural" pieces like those by Robert Lee Morris, which are described by Lyst as "[fusing] tribal elements with bold, futuristic shapes." Given the classic setting of the wedding, it's important to wear something that's not going to draw too much attention and look out of place.

Wear Jewelry that Goes with Your Dress
This may seem a bit obvious, but it's actually something not a lot of brides are able to do. Here's some advice from Wedding Lovely on how to match jewelry to your dress: "Short-sleeved dresses should include a bracelet and halternecks should focus on the hair accessories. Sweetheart or strapless dresses work best with chandelier earrings and v-necks need something to adorn their neckline, such as a pendant or a choker."

Don't Forget the Bridesmaids
Because you've already spent so much time finding the perfect dresses for your bridesmaids, you'll want to make sure that the final look is perfect by getting them the right accessories as well. Glamour recommends getting accessories that "keep the style consistent, but let your bridesmaids express their individuality." Not everything has to match - just go for a key element that ties everything together. After all, if your bridesmaids like the accessories, there's a chance they'll end up using them again on a separate occasion!
