a view from our house of my grandfather's house
My grandfather celebrated his 86th birthday yesterday…And we were invited to have dinner at their house for a simple family gathering. It is a blessing that he’s able to reach that age healthy…Without any debilitating illnesses.
Growing up, I was able to witness him change through the years…I saw him make mistakes…And do his best to make up for them…I saw how he freely expressed happiness…Disappointment…Frustration…I saw him take care of my grandmother when she got terribly sick…And mourn when she passed away…I saw him develop wrinkles and gray hair…I saw him grow as a person…To the person he is now.
There was a point in my life…When I thought I knew and understood everything. But then a year later…I discovered that at that point when I thought I knew everything…I still had a lot to learn. And there were so many things that I was yet to understand. The understanding that comes only as I age…And the lessons that can only be learned as I continue to live and experience life. And yes, as long as there is life…We should never stop learning. We shouldn’t stagnate at one point and stop growing.
Should I be blessed with a long life and reach my grandfather’s present age…I start to wonder how much wisdom I will be able to accumulate through the years. And what lessons about life I will be able to share with the next generation.I hope it will be a good one…And something that will remain in their hearts as long as they live.
