A lot of bloggers recently have been doing a day in the life post. Since I’ve enjoyed them so much, I thought I would do my own day in the life of Mr. & Ms. Adams. Clearly it won’t be as entertaining as those bloggers who blog full-time or have their own kiddos but I hope it gives you a little insight into our world.
So without further ado, here’s a typical day in the Adams household.
My day starts bright and early at 5:20 am so that I can squeeze in a workout before we leave for work for the day. I used to workout during my lunch break so that I could sleep longer but inevitably I ended up missing more workouts than I would like to admit (lunch breaks aren’t always guaranteed) and I always HATED showering twice and then having to go home sans makeup with dirty hair. So the only solution to the problem was to wake up at the butt crack of dawn. Guess it’s good training for kiddos.
Typically, I fart around on my phone for about 10 minutes to wake myself up until I finally gather the energy to get out of bed.
After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I setup my workout stuff in the living room and get to it. Today was Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred. I still dislike her as much as I used to but it’s slowly growing on me.
After working out for about 30 minutes, I head onto the shower, get dressed, put my face on, do my hairs, and make a lunch. While I’m in the shower, Mr. A wakes up and starts doing dishes in the kitchen so that I have a clean kitchen to make my lunch in and then he gets ready for his day.
We end up being ready to leave the house around 7:20 (yes I’m glossing over the fact that it takes me about an hour to shower and look presentable—don’t judge) and then leave to walk to the metro down the street.
Once our train arrives, we find seats next to each other and read the newspaper for the rest of our 25 minute train ride.
We then arrive at our train stop and walk another 10 minutes to our building. This is one of favorite parts of the day because….
I get to see this view every morning. Sorry it’s so blurry. I had to take it in the middle of the crosswalk, which is slightly death inducing in these parts. Hi, Capitol building. Most days we get to watch the sun rising up over the Capitol as we walk to work.
Once we get into the building, I leave Mr. A for the day and hope to see him around lunch time. I arrive at my desk around 8 and start in on my first cup of coffee and begin to work. I won’t bore you with my work, but I keep myself busy chugging through emails, writing reports, analyzing data, etc. until lunch rolls around at 12:30.
Typically, I go to lunch with Mr. A but today he was busy practicing a presentation he’s giving tomorrow. So I just eat my lunch at my desk and start our daily bible devotional without him.
Every day, I pull up a devotional from the She Reads Truth girls. Today, we were working on Ephesians 4:1-16, which focused on the oneness of our faith and our God.
I like to keep myself accountable by writing notes in my journal about the devotional and then instagram-ing it. For some reason, writing a journal entry and posting a picture about it makes it more concrete.
I finish the rest of my lunch break checking personal emails and other social media stuff until I see an urgent email come in from my boss. My lunch hour gets cut short and it’s back to work. On a usual day, Mr. A would meet me for lunch and we would do our devotional and go for a short walk. It’s always the highlight of my day. I was definitely sad to miss him today.
I work for the rest of the day until 5:30 when it’s time to leave. Mr. A walks up to my desk and then we head out together.
We start off on our 30 minute commute home, same thing as earlier in the day except reversed of course. When I’m lucky, I get to sit next to Mr. A on the way home but today the train is so packed that we don’t end up sitting next to each other at all. So like every other anti-social dc-er I stick in my headphones and zone out to music until we arrive home.
We get home around 6 and I start making dinner right away. I’m usually starving at this point so the only thing I can think about is FOOD.
Tonight’s dinner special was enchiladas negras. It took my about 45 minutes from start to finish, which is pretty typical around here. I like to make dinners from scratch Monday through Friday so I’m used to the routine. I find it to be super relaxing to cook in the kitchen while singing and dancing away to Pandora.
Once dinner is baking in the oven, I start working on today’s blog post. I upload images, edit them, write the text, and format the post usually for the next hour or so. If I have any time left over, I try to get through personal emails and other small blog related tasks. Mr. A is working on his computer too–paying bills and catching up with emails.
Around 7:30, dinner is ready so I take a break from the blog and watch some TV with the hubby while we eat dinner. Typically, we’ll watch something on Netflix or something that we’ve DVR-ed but tonight the O’s are playing the Yankees so our TV is dominated by my favorite birds.
After taking a short eating break, I go back to my computer and finish up today’s post and answer a few more emails. This time of day flies by so fast and I always wish I had more time to spend on the blog but I don’t want to ignore my hubby either.
At 8:30, the laptop gets put away. We have a rule around here that at 8:30 we stop working and start getting ready for bed. This makes me an old geezer but it also ensures that I don’t end up wasting hours and hours of time on Facebook when I should be sleeping.
After getting ready for bed, we hop in bed and finish watching whatever we started earlier, which is still my O’s.
Usually, we would watch TV for the next hour or so and then I go to sleep at 9:30. I’m a stickler for sleep and routines but tonight’s different. The O’s are still playing (first playoff series since ’97) so there’s no way that I’m heading to sleep until this game is in the bag.
Unfortunately, my O’s suffer a heartbreaking loss in the 13th inning.
But there’s no time for grumbling because I’ve got a 5:30 am workout calling my name and Jillian will not be happy if I phone it in. So I try to settle myself to sleep and call it a night.
Sounds pretty boring huh? We are two old geezers but I’m glad that I get to spend so much time with my hubby. And I’m sure you think I’m crazy but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I wonder how hilarious it’s going to be to look at this post 5 years from now
