Beach Anniversary Photo Shoot Part 1

Posted on the 09 August 2012 by Msadams @HilaryFerrell

While Mr. A and I are basking in Key West sunshine, I thought I would keep you all entertained by sharing more pictures and the story behind our 1 year anniversary beach photo shoot (which seems apropos given our current surroundings).

For those of you that missed the initial post about our anniversary shoot, let me get you up to speed.  As a gift to Mr. A for our one year anniversary, I purchased a photo shoot with our wedding photographers at Assateague Island (a natural beach here in Maryland with wild roaming horses).

The only downside to the location is that it’s pretty far away from the mainland (3 1/2 hours from our apartment in Northern Virginia) making the logistics of the photoshoot a little difficult.  Luckily, Amie and Kelley from Amie Decker Beauty were super accommodating.  I met them about 4 hours before the shoot at Kelley’s house, which was on the way to Assateague Island.  We opted for an updo and airbrushed makeup so that I would get a lasting look that would still be pretty 4 hours later.  After they beautified me, we continued driving another 2 1/2 hours until we finally got to Assateague, where we met up with our photographers Jason and Cicely.

When we arrived at Assateague, Cicely let us know the shooting game plan.  She had spent the whole day scoping out the island trying to find the best locations.  After a quick location rundown, Mr. A and I headed over to the bathrooms to change into our first look.

I ended up picking out a one shoulder blue dress from Express to match a blue plaid shirt that Mr. A has that I adore.

Our first shot was an epic beach shot as Cicely liked to call it.  Mr. A and I walked slow on the beach, while Cicely stood about a football field away trying to catch a shot of us walking between the dunes.

We started off walking super slow counting about 3 seconds between each step, until Cicely called us and told us that she didn’t mean for us to walk that slowly.

Whoops, we are sticklers for directions icon smile Beach Anniversary Photo Shoot Part 1

Once Cicely nailed the shot, she walked back over to our location to get some close up pictures of us sitting on the beach.

At this point, I felt so bad for Mr. A.  Between the blowing sand and the bright sun, his eyes were having a hard time staying dry.  Every time I looked over, he had a tear running down his cheek.  He was really a trooper about it and eventually when the sun went down his eyes cleared up.

Once we were finished with this spot, we noticed a pair of horses hanging out at a dune in the distance.  Fearing that this might be our only chance to get a picture with a horse, we walked over to the horses and started posing for pictures.

He started off pretty shy and then gradually got closer…

This turned out to be our one and only encounter with the wild horses so I am so glad we decided to jump on the opportunity when we had it.

We literally had no idea the horse was getting so close because our photographers just kept shooting away, telling us how great the pictures were turning out.  And then I looked up and the horse was less the 5 feet from us.  Crazy!

Even though these horses are smaller than the domestic version, being that close to a large wild animal is a little terrifying–you are never really sure what they are going to do.  So thanks to our horsey friend for not kicking or biting us icon smile Beach Anniversary Photo Shoot Part 1

Check back in tomorrow where I’ll be sharing more pictures from our anniversary session including an outfit change to a whimsical white and gold polka dot dress!

Thanks a million times to Jason and Cicely from Procopio Photography for these amazing pictures and Amie and Kelley from Amie Decker Beauty for the fantastic hair and makeup!
