Brandi's View

So like a week or so ago i was corresponding with a new friend of mine named Brandi. I was introduced to her via her blog and by another blogging friend TB. They both live in Kansas City, and they're both pretty awesome. I asked Brandi in an email one day to paint me a picture of what her workspace looked like. I liked her response. You will too:
"Paint you a picture of my view?  Hmmm...ok. Not sure you are ready for this.............. My L-shaped mohogany desk sits at the entrance of our downtown office which is built of floor to ceiling windows so that I may watch visitors and fellow workers come and go throughout the day.  Directly in front of me, on the other side of the glass, is a long hallway and the janky elevator for our nine story parking garage.  Along the hallway there are large black and white prints on canvas of what Kansas City used to look like "back in the day".   Aside from these photos, everything else is beige.  Beige walls, Beige marble, BEIGE!  There is another desk directly to my left which sadly, sits unocupied.  In fact, there are 4 seperate offices in our that are empty apart from the telephones that sit on the floor and the black swivil chairs awaiting the company of a nice ass.  We had planned to expand our offices a few years ago and then the Real Estate Market went caput and business wasn't what it had been.  So...the entire left side of our downtown spot lies empty and sad.  In front of my desk there is a, you guessed it!, beige suede couch for clients to enjoy as they wait for the attorneys to make them a priority.  (They often treat clients like Doctors treat their patients, you have to wait at least 20 minutes to see them even if they aren't busy because...well....they are lawyers,or doctors, and they can make you do that)  Above the couch is a large rectangle mirror trimmed in gold and beside it is a 7 to 8 foot tall artificial ficus tree that is gathering dust cause I'm to lazy to clean it off.  I despise artifical greenery.  In fact, Rainforest Cafe, a place adorned floor to ceiling in artificial jungle plants gives me the creeps and makes me feel like I need to shower.  How can you possibly clean that many artificial plants?  I say it can't be done!  Plus, this should probably be a concern of yours too since you are a fire fighter.  I mean, having that many artificial plants in one place has GOT to be a fire hazard!!!  I'm just saying!  My desk is relatively clean at all times.  I have various notes and photos of my family (mostly my nephews) posted neatly around it.  To my right, in the corner of my desk are four bamboo stalks in a small vase.  They are tied together with twine and growing very fast I must say.  I also have a green scentsy pot that fills the air with what I like to call, "MAN SMELL"!  I think the real name of the scent is Echo but it smells like mens cologne and woah is it yummy!  Days at my office are pretty mundane and boring just like all the beige; I answer phones and I file papers but, I mostly mess around on the ineternet and get paid for it.  It's obviously not my dream job but I have been here for two years now.  I work with two attorney's and one of their wives who does our book keeping.  I stay here because they are pretty flexible with me and my school schedule (allowing me to take a 6 week leave in the summer to travel to Spain) and because I haven't decided where else I would want to go yet.  The highlights of my day at work are; when someone, like you, blogs something that will allow me to escape for fifteen minutes, when the maintenance guy at work shows up suprisingly and brings me Starbucks and shoots the shit with me for 15 minutes while he too trys to avoid his work and, when someone trys to stop the asshole elevator door with their arm or foot and gets it stuck in it.  Their expressions are priceless.  That elevator IS an asshole!  Oh...and on top of my desk is a candy jar, typically filled with tootsie rolls or jolly ranchers and I get a lot of visitors who like to steal my candy.  Did I paint it well enough???"
Yes you did, Brandi.
Thank you.
;)
On a completely unrelated note, i'm blown away by Soundcloud for the IPad. I used to have to work so hard to record a song and actually get it to a point where i could share it online. Now i pull up an app, pick up my old guitar (with strings missing), start playing, and a tap or two later on my IPad the song is available online. Kids these days don't know how good they got it. [Note to self: restring your guitars and start recording songs and get crazy rich].
Enjoy.

A long time ago I warned myself of this / alone she sits and waits for everything I said / she falls apart I know / she falls apart I know / I don't know / it never was / and I can't give enough / I don't know / it never was / but I can't give her up / alone I start to break / but I can't wish her away / I fall apart I know / I fall apart I know / I don't know / if it ever was / and I can't give enough / I don't know / it never was / but I can't give her up
