There's nothing that quite describes the relationship between a dog and their "human."

Some people might call our furry babies "best friends;" many might describe our four-legged companions as "our children;" and others, like myself, simply state that "that our dog is the love of our life."

Celebrating National Dog Week

Our dogs have made us laugh, wiped-away our tears, let us vent, motivate us to exercise, and just be all around better people by having their nuzzly faces around us.

They celebrate us every day by giving us one of their messy kisses, take over our bed or our couch to keep it warm for us, and celebrate when we walk-in the door from either a long day of school or work.

Now it's their turn to be celebrated by planning fun activities to show them how much they are loved and appreciated during National Dog Week.

Celebrating National Dog Week
National Dog Week, was founded more than 75 years ago to celebrate Military dogs and has since evolved to celebrate the love, friendship and companionship that our dogs bring to our lives.

Celebrated throughout the country from September 20 - 26, you will find many activities planned in your local community to celebrate your furry children. But, you can also celebrate in your own way as we do with our lovely Princess Maya.

The folks at Beneful asked me to share examples with my readers of how we celebrate our Princess Maya, and of course I jumped on the chance.

But after much thought, I came to the conclusion that there is really no secret formula or must list of anything that I recommend that you do to celebrate your furry children at home.
The most important thing as a dog parent, is to keep your furry baby's healthy and happy.
The healthy part might sound hard because some dogs are predisposed to medical issues because of their breed, like our lovely Princess Maya.
But if you take your furry children to the vet regularly, vaccinate them at the recommended schedule, and feed them a diet that they both like and sits well with their tummy's, your baby will grow-up healthy.

The happy part is easy. Give them love and play, and you will see that you have a loyal companion for life.
We take Princess Maya on three daily walks, sometimes four. We also include daily play time and take her with us on vacations (more to that soon!).
Thankfully, we also live in a community that is very open to having dogs shop or dine with us, so it goes without saying that Princess Maya is many times seen around town with us having a blast meeting new people!
Princess Maya, like most dogs, loves treats included in her play time...and I think many of our doggy families will love including treats inside of fun toys as well. So we want to share the love of dog play and family time with you too!
