Living For Today 650x434 Faithful Fridays: Living For Today

Today in my daily scripture reading from She Reads Truth, I truly felt God whispering in my ear.  I was reading day 27 from the Proverbs plan, when my soul stopped to ponder this poignant morsel:

Do not boast about tomorrow,

For you do not know what a day may bring.

Proverbs 27:1

So much of my life right now has been caught up in dreaming about the future.  The house we will buy, the children will we have, the parents we will be.  Probably about 90% of our discussions revolve around future plans.

This passage made me realize that we’ve been spending so much time planning our future that we’ve forgotten to live in this very moment with which we’ve been blessed.

I forgot to soak in my Husband’s smile as we sat down for dinner.

I forgot to be thankful for the pleasure of his and His company.

I forgot to enjoy the space that we are occupying right now.

Surely this proverb can be taken in a somber, depressing tone.  God states numerous times throughout the Bible that He can take away just as easily as He gives.  And that of course is a point that cannot and should not be taken lightly.

But the most important message of this passage is that we must have an awareness of the beauty of today.  When we get caught up in our tomorrows, we forget to enjoy today. There’s no promise that tomorrow will be better, but there is the promise that today we are alive and we are surrounded by His love.  That’s all today will ever need.

What are you doing to show God that you appreciate your today and not your tomorrow?
