The assumption that you need to have a large group of people to have fun or play games is seriously over-rated. Sometimes it's much more fun, and romantic, to plan an evening in to have a game night!
The long weekend was the perfect opportunity to schedule our game night.First on our agenda: get a new board game. Second: plan a simple menu that would remind us of a simpler time.
My hubby looking for a game at the Walmart Game Department
Didn't seem romantic - at first! Then we got in our new FIAT to trek across town to go to our nearest Walmart. Call us silly, but we really took this time away from everyone, and everything we knew as the perfect opportunity to reminisce about our childhoods in the San Fernando Valley.
"What games did we play when it was rainy outside?" "What did our parents feed us to keep us entertained - and happy?" We certainly have talked about these things before - but never to recreate any bit of that during our busy grown-up lives. But most importantly: we had fun while shopping! Searching for a new game is a serious matter in our home :)
But that was soon changed as soon as we got the game section! Hubby decided that he was going to pick a game - I was going to pick our comfort food from a selection of Walmart Meal Solutions.
Hubby talked about "dipping chicken nuggets in sauce" when he was watching a movie. I mentioned how "I missed my moms crinkle fries." He wanted "pop," I preferred a glass of wine. What to do? We picked a couple of items that brought-back our childhood:
Tyson Chicken Nuggets
Ore Ida French Fries
Heinz Ketchup (as our dipping sauce)
Our FIAT packed to the brim with our game night supplies - and a few other items
we couldn't resist ;-)
Simple-yet perfect. We actually couldn't wait to get home and start playing our new game.
After a grueling one-game winning streak - by me (insert celebratory claps here), hubby proclaims that we will "plan one game night a month." This, of course, coupled with fun foods that will remind us of how much fun we can still have as adults.
I won! HA :)
