For Boston

boston1 For Boston

Like far too many days lately, yesterday will be marked as another day of unspeakable tragedy and loss.  The World watched as violence once gain overtook our lives.

The older I become the more removed I have to make myself from tragedies like this one.  I’ve seen far too many of them in my short life and I simply refuse to allow their violence to overtake me.

I will pray for the victims.  I will pray for the attacker.  I will pray for the rest of us left here to struggle with the meaning of such evil.  And I will pray that we will all finally see a day when we do not have to say prayers like this anymore.

But I will not, I cannot, watch the news.

I won’t watch videos of the explosions.  I won’t listen to the screams of the crowds.  I won’t look at pictures of the maimed victims. I won’t let that violence into my heart. It gives the attackers far too much power and importance when we allow images of their destruction to run over and over in our minds.

Instead, I’ll choose to remember the people who ran towards the explosion to help those in need.  I’ll choose to remember the runners who after finishing their grueling marathon ran to the closest hospitals to donate blood.  These people are the real heroes.  They showed us that humanity still exists even in the depths of the darkest despair.  They prove that good will always prevail over evil.

Boston, and the rest of the world, I pray for our healing.
