Hello, 2013

Posted on the 04 January 2013 by Cantuccfd @cantuCCFD
Hello, 2013 I love the end of the year for all the holiday fun and the beginning of the new year for all it's promise. Everyone suddenly hits the gym, promises to make changes in their lives, and even though everyone knows most of these new year's resolutions will be an epic fail, at this time of year there's still that glimmer of hope that they won't. Do I make new year's resolutions? Yeah, not really. This pretty much sums up my day to day whether its January 1st or August 20th:
Hello, 2013 So far so good. Too bad my Cowboys couldn't survive. The entire season had come down to this: week 17, last game of the season with the division title on the line, Sunday Night Football game of the week, the world is watching aaaaaand yeah, no bueno. Cowboys lose. No playoffs this year. Damnit. My neighbor sure did everything he could to support from afar (picture below). I spent the rest of the night drowning in sorrow thinking about what could have been. Damn Cowboys.

Well... Hope this beer works. #dallascowboys #snf #seeyanextyear

Hello, 2013

So after that let down on Sunday, I wake up Monday to a text from Bruce. "Tobacco World. I'm here. Brought the Sailor Jerry's rum. Hurry up." 30 minutes later, I was there.

Hello, 2013

Breakfast of Champions

I don't know why we decided to drink first and have lunch afterward instead of the other way around, but it ended up working out. 12:30-2:30 at Tobacco World for cigars and rum (i.e. breakfast), then over to B&J;'s for a late lunch. I got there first before Bruce and Nick, had a delicious Philly steak sandwich, then waited on them to arrive. This was New Year's Eve mind you (did I mention that?), and with me working the next day and my history of not waking up on time on this exact occasion years back, I was not gonna stay out late. So this was the plan: have a fun, relaxed day/afternoon/early evening of drinks with friends, then call it an early night and get to bed. I basically stuck to it.

Hello, 2013 Bruce and Nick showed up just a little after I finished my sandwich of deliciousness. Bruce brought his wife Colleen and Nick brought his girl Rebecca (I think her name was Rebecca), and Jaime swung by too. We had another epically good time. Nick and Bruce may have been slightly buzzing after doing a couple Guinness challenges (pictured left), but it was ok cuz they were both off the next day and, hell, it was New Year's Eve. We chilled at B&J;'s for several hours going back and forth from the bar inside to the patio outside watching day turn into night. They closed early, around 8:30, to let the staff enjoy their New Year's Eve with family and friends. We all stayed outside chillaxing on the patio. Nick and his girl eventually left, followed soon after by Bruce and Colleen, and while I had planned on going home way before midnight, I did end up staying out in the parking lot chilling with Jaime watching the fireworks go off all around us. See, I basically stuck to the plan. Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013

Hello, 2013 January kicked off with cold and rain. We had a pretty chill shift at the station New Year's Day (I got there on time), and coming home Wednesday morning I figured it was gonna be an easy day to stay in. Then I got an invite from Jaime. Happy hour. I guess an hour or two of happiness won't hurt.

Eight hours later I got home with a squished Whataburger in hand. Friday's, Murdock's and Politics is where our eight hours went. (We would've hit Izzy's too but it was closed). So I like to stop in at several places when I'm out, sue me. Suffice it to say we had a fun extended happy hour. Woke up this morning, had my late lunch at B&J;'s, and chilled out the rest of the day. I gotta buy chow for tomorrow so that means i'll be headed to HEB in a sec. I just had a huge bowlful of seafood gumbo. Can you believe there's still some left? I told Jaime and she swears I'm gonna get sick. It tasted delicious and we did the same thing last year eating leftovers a week after it was made so I'm not worried, (although I probably won't be eating anymore of it cuz she did kinda scare me). So off to HEB I go. I'm on Engine 7 tomorrow and hopefully it's a chill shift. A good buddy of mine working either overtime or on a trade got burned at a house fire last night and had to stay the night at the hospital. I think so many times we take the job for granted. You never know. Fortunately he's recovering very well and he sounded in really good spirits. Thank god. Like I said, hopefully tomorrow is a chill shift. And now on a much, much, muuuch lighter note, i found this today. I literally crack up every time i see it. (Is that wrong?) Lol, poor girl. Enjoy ;)
