I've been seeing one one my dearest friends and the person I call my mentor on a weekly basis for the last couple of weeks. The timing couldn't be more perfect. We usually meet before my Monday study group. This gives us the perfect opportunity to talk shop, catch-up on life and discuss what I've been learning in school. He is, as you can imagine, one of my biggest fans and extremely encouraging of my decision to go back to school.
Today I was bringing him up-to-date on my limited social life and how I prefer, almost exclusively, to spend time with my husband or go out only if my husband is able to be my "plus one."
"People bore me," I admitted. I then recounted the many times I had to count to ten as I smiled out of boredom to the person standing in front of me.
"No one has anything interesting to say or they are so hyper-focused on their limited view points and experiences that I can't muster a straight face when they talk," I told him.
Honestly? These conversations BORE. ME. TO. TEARS,
I'm bored of people that can only talk about fashion, or only about their kids, or only about their job, or only about food.
There's more to life! At least I think so.
I can't imagine carving an entire personality out of ONE trivial and non-important topic.
So, I'm bored and prefer to stick to my cave, as I call it, and open a good book. Study some more, expand my mind, and sometimes, actually, many times, stir-up an interesting topic on my Facebook wall and debate.
I rather that than sit in front of yet another boring person who thinks the world revolves around ONE thing.
Current events? I was ashamed that very few people in my circles knew about the 200+ girls that were taken from their school in Nigeria.
Rather than share a viewpoint, any viewpoint, I have noticed that people just talk about the weather, so to say. This makes for very bland conversations and ultimately, makes folks look extremely superficial and not very smart.
Maybe I shouldn't say this, but my brain slowly shrinks every time I hear folks passionately discussing the Real Housewives Shows.
Is this horrible?
