I Think I'm On To Something

I Think I'm On To Something
I've made up my mind: i gotta start barbecuing at the house every weekend possible. What a great weekend this was. Saturday at the station followed by BBQ & football Sunday at the casa. I got to work around 7:40 Saturday morning and the house captain tells me I'll be riding Ladder 7 for the shift. I haven't even started my workday and I'm already getting good news. Have I mentioned how much I love climbing the aerial ladder? Add to that the fact that it's weekend routine at the station (which means breakfast first thing) and you can see why I'm loving life. I check out my gear, check out the truck, help with a quick station cleanup, and I can already smell the bacon. I wish every shift started with bacon. The shift was a good one: a handful of medical calls, a small nothin grass fire, people from domino's dropping by the station with 3 free pizzas, a good workout in the evening, only a couple quick calls after midnight.. Perfect. The best part was that at exactly 2:37 in the pm a stroke of genius hit me. All at once I decided I wanted to watch football all day sunday, I wanted to enjoy a few cold ones, and i wanted good company. I texted Hector, "You off tomorrow?", "Yeah, I'm off. Wanna 'Q' it up?" Genius.
I Think I'm On To SomethingAs I got off work Sunday morning that's all I could think about. I texted Sprunger right at 8:00. "BBQ at my house around 1. Hector's doin his wings. Come out." (Note to readers: Always invite Sprunger to a barbecue: most guys bring beer, Sprunger brings bottles). So I arrived at the casa, showered, took a quick nap, and i look up and it's right around game time. God I love DirecTv. Watching all the games at once, in high-def, Sprunger and Jeanie show up, and I let them in. Sprunger's fixing drinks, Jeanie's drinking drinks, and my brain is crying tears of joy on the inside as I down a cold one while watching some Buffalo running back I normally wouldn't care about (but whose every stat I'm now consumed with since he's on my fantasy team) rack up yard after yard and the best part is that I don't have to wait for the Sportscenter highlights to see it. God I looove DirecTv. We haven't even gotten to the food yet. Right when I think I can't wait any longer, Hector shows up with his pit, wings, more beer, shrimp, jalapenos, and all the ingredients to make his soon to be world famous wing sauce. (Hecky's Sexy Messy Wing Sauce. I get 20% of the proceeds for coming up with the name). Hector's good friend Javier shows up, more beers in hand, and they proceed to getting the shrimp and jalapeño poppers ready and it's on. Great wings, great poppers, empty beer bottles lining the countertops, Sprunger knocking over everything near him, Javier somehow finishing 18 bud lights all by himself with no one even noticing, and a full New Orleans trip planned for November. That's a fun barbecue.
I gots to do these every chance I get.

I spent most of Monday chillin, ready to watch my Cowboys on Monday Night Football last night (thank god they won), and had another good shift out at Station 1 today. Lots of visitors here today since a group from here went to the game last night in Dallas. Had some good chow, quiet day, and now I'm ready for bed. [and just as I finished typing that we got a call for a stabbing. Gotta love Corpus drama]. Back now. Gonna try and catch some shut eye while i can. Enjoy the video of me showing dominance over a huge jalapeño below. Nite nite.
