Now that I've officially got my bragging out about our wedding magazine spread, it's time to get back to our wedding recaps. When I last left you, my beautiful maid of honor had just given her heartwarming toast. Next in line for speeches was Mr. A's best man, Fernando.
To say that his speech was the total opposite of Theresa's would be an understatement (I don't mean that in a negative way at all). It just proves the typical gender differences. I know Theresa spent months writing, rewriting and practicing her speech. The only thought Fernando gave to it was to put it off. He's not a preparer by any means. He really likes to live life by the seat of his pants. So honestly, I wasn't surprised that he didn't prepare anything. But it didn't matter, he did a great job just speaking from his heart. And I especially appreciated the razing he gave Mr. A. Always fun to watch him squirm.
"How’s it going? All right? I was told to make it brief; I’m going to talk as long as I possibly can because they’re not allowed to make any more rules. I’m just kidding, I really didn’t prepare anything. Everyone at my table knows it because I’ve said it like 26 times.
Really, what I want to say is I’m really excited to be here today. I’m actually honored that I was asked to be the Best Man. I’m not surprised, but honored.Mr. Adams and I have known each other since I first moved to South Carolina when I was a freshman in high school. The actual first friend that I made and only one I’ve kept this entire time. People have come and gone; Mr. Adams’s always been there.
It’s really cool when you guys are best friends because you guys kind of share everything, he’s seen me and my wife and get together and get married. He always asked how I knew I was ready and I said, ‘There really isn’t any explanation; you just know and it just kind of happened.’ But I’ll tell you when I knew HE was ready: during the last year or so there’s been some pretty turbulent times and I didn’t know until after it was already over and after it was taken care of.
What that tells me is that there’s another best friend in Mr. Adams’ life. So I’m not jealous. I’m actually happy for him because now I don’t have to listen to him cry so much.
It also tells me that they are going to be really successful because a marriage is not just about a companionship, it’s about a friendship and you have to be able to share everything, and I’m really happy they’re sharing everything with each other before anybody else.
It also tells me they’re gonna go the long haul with each other because, man, if she can put up with the stuff that he dishes out. You’re good!
I pray you guys last forever and I know everybody here supports it. I just want to say, to Mr. Adams and Ms. Adams, forever and ever."
