The morning after our wedding, Mr. A and I got up at the butt crack of dawn to get ready for our after-wedding breakfast. After digging around for 30 minutes to get all the hairpins out and doing some last minute ironing, the new hubs and I were ready for breakfast.
The really convenient part is that breakfast was just downstairs from our room. Antrim has a sit down breakfast in its restaurant (in the basement of its mansion) for all its guests. We took advantage of this and asked for Antrim to reserve a room just for our wedding guests. We also invited our other family members and friends that opted to stay at different hotels.
We decided to sit at another sweetheart table and ordered breakfast as soon as we got there. That way we could try to eat before everyone arrived. Slowly guests started pouring in and walking over to congratulate us again. It still felt really surreal to call Mr. A my husband (and 7 months later it’s still just as surreal).
We had a great mix of family and friends.
Sober and not so sober.
When our preacher arrived with his wife, Mr. A and I took the chance to get our marriage license signed. We didn’t want to be bothered with it during the wedding but now seemed like a perfect time. It’s amazing how long and complicated something like a marriage license can be.
Mr. A also thought it would be the perfect time to take some posed marriage licensing signing pictures. He looks so natural, doesn’t he?
Don’t quit your day job love ;)
With the license out of the way, we walked around the room again and thanked everyone for coming. It was nice to be able to say a real goodbye to the people that we really, really love. And of course, we loved being able to spend more time with the people who came from far far away to be with us at the wedding.
Soon many people started to leave so they could get a head start on their journeys home. Let’s just say there was a lot of hugging going on. When we hugged our last guests and watched them walk away, I looked over to Mr. A and said “Wow, I can’t believe this is all over…Guess, it’s time to figure out how to lug all the crap home.” I know, I’m sentimental.
We spent the rest of the day jamming all our leftover wedding stuff into our tiny sedan and my parent’s huge SUV. Unfortunately, it required a few trips but it was worth it to get everything back. (I ended up being able to sell all of our leftover stuff for hundreds of dollars on craigslist…worth the temporary torture).
When we drove away that last time from Antrim, I kind of didn’t know what to do with myself. We had just closed the biggest chapter of our lives thus far. Something that was almost 2 years in the making. And it wasn’t that I was sad it was over (okay, I was a little sad), it was that I was so excited to see what waiting around the corner. I felt like if we could pull off the wedding of our dreams as a team, we really could take on the world together. With my favorite passenger by my side, we drove off hand-in-hand dreaming of the miracles, blessings and lessons God was going to give us in our (lord willing) next 50 plus years of marriage.
