Our Wedding Day: Couple's Portraits Round 2

Posted on the 18 January 2012 by Msadams @HilaryFerrell
With all the major reception events out of the way (i.e. cake cutting and parent dancing), it was time to get the dance party started.
As our guests got their dancing shoes on, Mr. A and I snuck out of our reception to take some sunset portraits with our photographers.  I know this is a touchy subject with brides and grooms because they don’t want to “leave” their guests but honestly it was totally worth it.

Our Wedding Day: Couple's Portraits Round 2Two of our absolute favorite pictures from the wedding came from this session (not to say that our pre-ceremony pictures weren’t banging).  It was really nice being able to capture some other unique spots around Antrim.  And of course, it was priceless to be able to spend some semi alone time with the new hubs (it literally was just us and the photogs).
We started at the pink peony bushes right outside our reception site.  I’m so glad that Jason and Cicely picked this spot because I LOVE peonies (you know that’s the sole reason I picked a May wedding date).
We began with a few hand holding shots.

Then eventually I ended up on the ground.  Don’t worry.  I didn’t ruin my dress.  Jason gave me one of their mats to kneel on to protect the gown.  The tricky part was just getting down there and then flailing around to get back up.

Right beside our reception site, there was also a huge open field.  Jason and Cicely used this location to take full advantage of the low light.
Our Wedding Day: Couple's Portraits Round 2I love how modern this shot looks.
And then of course they got a shot of Mr. A’s special handpicked socks that I teased him about endlessly.

I seriously must have reminded him like 700 times to make sure to put his socks on.  I think this picture serves to remind me that occasionally he does remember the things I say.
We ended out shoot at probably my favorite feature at Antrim, their beautiful garden fountains.  I had seen so many beautiful pictures taken of this spot but I think Jason and Cicely truly blew those all out of the water.

We love this picture so much it was featured on our album cover, our thank you cards, our living room wedding photo display.  You name it that picture was featured on it.
In the end, I’m so glad we decided to take 20 minutes away from our guests to take these pictures.  We now have memories to last a lifetime.  And we also knew we would spend the rest of our night dancing so a little break in the beginning wasn’t going to hurt anyone.  Besides, I can only look at so many dancing pictures before I want to hurt myself ;)
Did you decide to do any portraits during your reception?
