A few months back I mentioned that I was realigning my life and doing more things that made "me" happy. Mostly, revisiting my life goals and touching base with my hobbies.
One of those goals and hobbies - rather passion - as ya'll know is fashion. Fashion design and sewing.
The issue is this: my designing skills far outweigh my sewing skills.
Actually, who am I kidding: my sewing skills SUCK!
But try as I may, I went to every single generic store that sold sewing machines. From $99 to $2,500, each machine simply looked like a pimped up version of the former.
Sewing teachers, rather instructors, gave me the feeling you get on your first day of school: chills down my spine. I didn't connect with anyone. Not a one.
But the universe always provides, at least that is my belief: last weekend I saw a beacon of light.
A HUGE booth with sewing machines, fabric, and instructors patiently managing the droves of traffic that gravitated to their booth. Hundreds of women stood in line to make a free bag.
Hundreds.
The instructors didn't loose their cool, at least in the few minutes I stood around like a love-struck school girl. I took a brochure and stuck it in my purse. "I'll check out their website later," I thought to myself.
Had I not been looking for "work-related stuff" that brochure would have long been forgotten. But I was, and I didn't.
Bravery took over and I dialed the number on the brochure. Today.
I spoke to the owner of the Sewing Arts Center in Santa Monica, Russell, who was kind, understanding and informative.
I told Russell about my apprehension in buying a sewing machine, my need to reconnect with sewing and fashion, and my desire to go back to basics and re-learn how to sew.
He listened, gave a few pieces of advice and pretty much sold me on taking sewing classes.
Starting next week.
For one month.
I did it...I signed-up!!
Giddiness doesn't begin to describe my excitement! So much so, that I told Russell that many of my blog readers are based in LA and might be interested in taking classes with me!
So here's the deal ya'll: Sign-up for any class at the Sewing Arts Center and mention my name or my blog, and you will receive a FREE embroidered/monogrammed bag!
Hope you join me!
Disclosure: I am receiving free sewing classes in exchange for reviewing my experience in this blog.
