My brother brought me back this lavender chocolate bar from Croatia as he knows that I love trying unusual products and anything chocolate is going to go down well with me. I love the smell of lavender but I wasn't sure what I am going to make of the taste!
It is a handmade dark chocolate bar and I think that it looks extremely pretty with the spinkle of the purple lavender on the top. The company who makes this bar is called Adria, I couldn't find out much about them online except for this post on the Speciality & Fine Foods Fair website. They are a Croatian chocolate maker and this bar has 72% cocoa content.
I was expecting the lavender to appear throughout the chocolate but it was just sitting on the top which made for a bit of a messy eat. However before I tasted the bar I noted that this could be a good thing if the lavender didn't go down too well as I could just brush it off and eat the chocolate on it's own instead!
Actually it was quite nice. The lavender tasted exactly how it smelt, floral but due to it just being a small dusting it wasn't over powering. The chocolate was good stuff, it was smooth and rich and was definitely the right choice over milk chocolate to compliment the floral flavours.
Verdict
I liked this bar but I couldn't help thinking that the chocolate without the lavender on it would have been a bit nicer. For me, the lavender didn't really add much other than a novelty factor and perhaps it would have been better more integrated into the bar but then I suppose it wouldn't have looked so pretty!
