I have to admit that I was a little scared when these boxes of Chocolate Ginger arrived in the post from Beech's Fine Chocolates. I have a love/hate thing going on with ginger and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it in covered in chocolate. These are not the sort of chocolates that I personally would have gone out and purchased but that is the beauty of being a review blogger, I get to try things that I wouldn't usually buy myself.
Last month I reviewed Beech's Chocolate Brazils and was really impressed with the quality of their chocolates so if I was going to try chocolate ginger then I had a feeling Beech's would be the one to go for.
All of Beech's products are manufactured and hand-finished in the UK and contain no artificial flavours or colourings. Their Dark Chocolate Ginger is made from a traditional recipe of stem ginger which is of course coated in their dark chocolate. These chocolates are suitable for both Vegetarians and Vegans.
Ginger has many benefits, it is meant to help with colds and help to sooth the digestive system. People with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis have apparently experienced pain relief when consuming ginger regularly and I have also heard that it is excellent at helping to ease morning sickness. So if you are suffering from any of these conditions then it might be worth giving some ginger a go and chocolate covered ginger has got to be the best sort of ginger!
These chocolates are quite big and each one looks slightly different with a varying swirly pattern on top. Like the chocolate Brazils, the dark chocolate layer was very generous and Beech's dark chocolate is rich with absolutely no bitterness.
Well I didn't need to worry about the ginger because it was actually really nice. It wasn't like the bitter sort of ginger that I dislike, it tasted more like the lovely comforting ginger of a gingerbread and with the dark chocolate it was delicious. There was a slight bit of heat to the aftertaste which I loved and I soon polished off quite a few of these chocolates! Verdict
It just goes to show that even if you think you won't like something, it is absolutely still worth giving it a try and that was certainly the case with Beech's Chocolate Ginger. I started off eating the smaller box but it won't last long and I will be moving on to that big box soon! The smaller 100g box costs £3.49 and the bigger 200g box is £6.49.
