After reviewing the new Blondie Brownie ice cream from Ben and Jerry's last week, I discovered that there is another new flavor thanks to a review I saw on Kev's Snack Reviews. I purchased this tub of Clever Cookies from Sainsbury's which surprisingly for a new flavor was on offer for 2 tubs for £6.
Clever Cookies is vanilla ice cream with a chocolate cookie swirl, double chocolate cookies and chocolate chip cookies. It contains 220 calories per 100ml.
No surprise that in the UK we get yet ANOTHER flavor containing cookie in some form...it was always going to be cookie or brownie, that's as exciting as it gets for us Brits. I would love to see some exciting flavours like the Greek Frozen Yogurt flavours that have been released in the USA.
That said, although not exciting cookie is still a good thing so I was looking forward to sampling this flavor and it's for a good cause. Apparently it is to support the 5 winners (or "Clever Cookies") of the Ben and Jerry's sustainable business competition.
The ice cream was proper packed with cookies in some form or another. The chocolate cookie swirl ran all throughout the vanilla ice cream which gave it an interesting look, like someone had smashed up a load of oreos and stirred them in. The bits of actual cookie were pretty big and chunky and they had a nice chewy texture to them but I actually think there was too much cookie in this ice cream. Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts but this was almost like eating a frozen biscuit rather than a nice creamy bowl of ice cream and I found that although it tasted nice it was a bit heavy going.
Verdict
I have yet to find a Ben and Jerry's that I didn't like and I didn't dislike Clever Cookies, I just think that it was a bit too much of a cookie overload for my taste and this flavor just did not excite me as much as some of the other flavours.
