Carte D'Or Signature Fondant Au Chocolat
As promised in my Bounty Sauce review, today I am reviewing this Carte D'Or Signature Fondant Au Chocolat ice cream.  This came out last year but I never got round to buying it so when I spotted it in Asda the other day on offer for £2 I thought I would give it a go.
There are 2 other flavours in the range; Tarte Aux Pommes and Creme Brûlée but this chocolate flavor appealed to me most of all. It is described as a chocolate dairy ice cream with vanilla sauce and brownie pieces, sprinkled with chocolate curls.

The tub is 450ml and is 140 calories per 100ml.  The packaging is quite sleek and I assume that this is marketed to compete with the more high end brands.  I think that it looks good but doesn't really stand out on the shelf amongst the other more brightly coloured tubs of a similar size.
The ice cream looks very pretty in the tub with the vanilla sauce swirled throughout.  It was quite light in consistency, much lighter than the likes of Haagen Dazs or Ben and Jerry's and this meant that it was much easier to scoop out of the tub.
I could tell right away that this was going to be very chocolatey, it was a very rich dark brown color but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't see much in the way of brownie.

The ice cream was indeed very chocolatey.  It didn't taste as creamy as the higher end brands and as I suspected there really wasn't very much brownie, only some very small pieces.  The tub does say only 4% brownie but I think this is a poor effort, why bother putting it in at all if you don't really notice it?
Verdict Carte D'Or Signature Fondant Au Chocolat ice cream is nice but I have to say that I would not pay the full price of £3.69 when there are better options out there for around the same price.  I personally think that the normal Carte D'Or range is better as you get more toppings and they have a better range of flavours.  The normal range is around £3.45 for a pot that is twice the size and quite often you can get these on a deal so I don't think that I would buy the Signature range again.
