REVIEW! Charlie Bigham's Macaroni Cheese and Meatballs Al Forno
Posted on the 05 June 2014 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictCharlie Bigham's makes posh ready meals and I was lucky enough to be sent some vouchers so that I could try a couple. I couldn't resist the Macaroni Cheese which is one of my all time favorite dishes and I also picked up a Meatballs Al Forno.
These are part of a huge range of meals which also includes some new Indian and Middle Eastern dishes. The meals serve 2 and have an RRP of £7, although my local Sainsbury's did have an offer doing them for £6 each. Charlie Bigham's meals are hand prepared with fresh ingredients with no additives or preservatives.
The Macaroni Cheese looked amazing, it was topped with pancetta and ciabatta croutons which made it a bit posher than your standard mac & cheese. It came in a lined wooden tray which you simply put in the oven for around half and hour. There were 769 calories in half of the pack
When it came out, it was lovely and crispy on the top which is just how I like Macaroni Cheese! It tasted amazing too and trust me, I have tried many ready made Macaroni Cheeses and this is by far the best, it had a real homemade feel to it.
Meatballs Al Forno contains 532 calories per half a pack. It's tomato sauce, trulli pasta, pork meatballs, and a mozzarella cheese topping
This meal also came in a wooden tray and took 30 minutes in the oven. I loved how the meatballs on top were crispy and tomato sauce was really packed with flavor. The mozzarella made it feel really indulgent...just delicious!
VerdictI have to say that I was initially a bit shocked at the price of these meals at £7 each but considering that they serve 2 and they really were delicious, I would happily pay that price again. Charlie Bigham's is not aimed at the every day market but I think that their meals are designed for a treat on a night in and what a lovely treat these 2 were! We plan to get another one in on Saturday night!
