REVIEW! Ford Farm's Wookey Hole Cave Aged Goats' and Traditional Cheddar
Posted on the 28 December 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictJust before Christmas I was sent these Cave Aged cheeses from Ford Farm, one is a traditional Cheddar and the other is a Goats' Cheddar. I was curious because I love goats' cheese and eat lots of it but I have never tried a goats' cheddar before!
"Cave Aged" is a cloth bound Cheddar which is made in Dorset and aged within the Caves at Wookey Hole. Ford Farm has won several awards for their cheeses and they actually make the Tesco Finest Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar.
I decided to try the traditional Cheddar first which was a lovely bright yellow color and smelt fantastic. For me, the stronger the Cheddar the better and this one didn't disappoint. It was crumbly in texture with a slightly nutty flavor. I've been eating this cheese on everything; cheese on toast, on top of pasta bakes and just slicing bits off and snacking on it. It's also really nice with some chutney and honestly one of the nicest Cheddars I have tried.
The Goats' Cheddar is less crumbly but more creamy than the Cheddar. I wasn't really sure what to expect but I suppose the best way that I can describe it is that it tasted a bit milder than normal goats' cheese with the texture of Cheddar. It was very nice and tasted amazing melted on a bit of toast with some tomatoes and basil.
VerdictBoth cheeses from Ford Farm were delicious and extremely versatile. Be sure to check out the Ford Farm website or follow them on Twitter for more about Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar.
