REVIEW! Hershey's Payday Peanut and Caramel Bar
Posted on the 25 February 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictThe PayDay is an old classic American bar which was first introduced in 1932 so it has been around a long time but it's not something that I have ever been tempted to pick up until I saw it reviewed by Dave from The Snack Review back in October.
The packaging is really bland and old fashioned; you don't see many candy bars in a white wrapper and it's not immediately clear what it is apart from some sort of peanut and caramel bar. Prior to reading Dave's review I thought that it was going to something similar to a Snickers but there is no chocolate involved here.
I purchased this PayDay bar from The Stateside Candy Co. in Aldershot for £1.09 which is a good price for an imported American candy bar. The bar weighs 52g and contains 240 calories
It's a strange looking bar, a bit like a Mr Tom but with a softer center. It snapped easily and the roasted peanut smell was very strong.
As soon as I bit into the bar I could taste the salt and it left a salty coating on my lips. The texture was interesting, very crunchy from the peanuts on the outside and then the soft chewy caramel center. Sadly I couldn't really taste the caramel as much as I had hoped as I couldn't get past the saltiness.
Verdict The PayDay was far too salty for me so I would definitely not buy it again. My husband however thought it was really nice and apparently he would have awarded it 3 stars...however this is my review not his and I was not impressed so sorry PayDay but only a 1.5 stars from me.
