Hershey's Whatchamacallit
Another Hershey's bar review, following my review of their PayDay bar yesterday. I first heard about the Whatchamacallit after seeing this Choc It Out Video and with it's weird name I needed to get in on the action. The wrapper describes the Whatchamacallit as "made with chocolate and peanut flavoured crisps and caramel".  This is a 45g bar and contains 230 calories.

I think the peanut crisps refers to the little bit of puffed rice and looking at the list of ingredients it also contains defatted peanuts...right OK then, I'm not entirely sure what those are but never mind. The Whatchamacallit was first introduced in 1978 and apparently Canada has their own version called a Special Crisp, we don't have either in the UK apart from in import shops so I purchased it from The Stateside Candy Co. in Aldershot for £1.09.

Not being huge fan of Hershey's poor attempt at chocolate I wasn't going to have high expectations for the chocolate in this bar, that said it's not the be all and end all; I recently tried their 5th Avenue and really enjoyed it despite the chocolate.
The Whatchamacallit smelt deliciously sweet and this was reflected in the taste...much less salt than the PayDay. The caramel gives it a bit of a chewy texture but it's crunchy at the same time because of the crisp rice. The chocolate (if you can call it that) was disappointing as I expected, but the other flavours were strong enough for me not to really notice it.
Verdict It's not as good as the 5th Avenue but I quite enjoyed the Whatchamacallit. I liked the texture and for me this was a good balance of sweet and salty...probably because it was mostly sweet.
