REVIEW! Hershey's Zero

Hershey's Zero
Well I thought that I knew about most of the big American candy bars but whilst browsing Facebook the other day I saw a post from Monster Sweets with a picture of the Zero bar by Hershey's. I don't know how I missed this bar because it contains some of my favorite things. The Zero bar is caramel, peanut and almond nougat and covered with white fudge.
Monster Sweets kindly sent me this bar to review. They are specialists in American sweets and European chocolate and the Zero bar is available on their website for £1.25.
Hershey's Zero
I'm not sure why it is called a Zero, sadly it's not due to the calories content which is 230 for a 52g bar. Perhaps it is because it contains zero chocolate? It's quite unusual to see a bar covered in white fudge, I can't think of any others out there and it's not something that we really have in the UK.
The magpie in me really likes the shiny silver wrapper, it's quite simple but I imagine that it would stand out quite well against the brighter colours of a lot of the other candy bars. Having said that, I never even knew that this thing existed and I spend ALOT of time (far too much time) browsing import shops and websites and trust me when I say that if I had noticed this bar then I would have definitely purchased it.
Hershey's Zero
The nougat is quite a dark brown, it looks chocolatey and contains some small chunks of almonds and peanuts and is a great contrast against the white fudge coating. It did have a slight cocoa hint to it but was not overly chocolatey in taste, more nutty as you would expect and I could taste the almonds more than the peanuts. The texture of the nougat is quite dense, much more so than a Milky Way. The caramel added a slight chewiness and along with the fairly thick layer of white fudge, made this bar very sweet. The white fudge is nothing like white chocolate, it is much sweeter and not as creamy and it's not like the sort of fudge that we have the UK either. It's a strange substance and not one that I would particularly enjoy on it's own but as part of this candy bar it's great!
Verdict
I would imagine that a lot of people would find this bar sickly, however this is the sort of thing that my sweet tooth loves and this has just over taken the Butterfinger (reviewed here) as my favorite American candy bar!
