These Smoked Paprika with Porcini & Garlic Butter Kettle Chips are a seasonal release inspired by garlic mushrooms. I don't think I have ever tried mushroom flavoured crisps but Kettle Chips always get their flavours right so I picked up a bag in Tesco. I can't remember what I paid at the time as they have been in a cupboard for a few weeks, but there is currently an offer of any 3 bags for £3.00 or they are £1.99 each. You best hurry though as the offer ends tomorrow! The bag weighs 150g and 100g contains 503 calories, they are also suitable for veggies.
The crisps have a reddish tinge to them and I could really smell the garlic. They had the usual satisfying crunch that you would expect from Kettle Chips, I really love those ones that are sort of folded in half...you know the ones I mean, the crunch is always the best on those.
Anyway the paprika was the most obvious flavor and it was smokey. They almost reminded me of the Salsa and Mesquite Kettle Chips that were about a few years ago, but not as tangy. I'm not sure what happened to those Kettle Chips, they were amazing! Next came the garlic butter which was not as strong as it smelt and the porcini was equally subtle but I could definitely taste it in there.
Verdict
I wasn't sure that I was going to like these Kettle Chips because I had worries about mushroom flavoured crisps, however because it was quite toned down and the paprika was the main flavour, they were pretty tasty. The garlic didn't leave a bad after taste and I have to applaud the originality of this flavor.
Just one more thing to add...If you are reading this Kettle Chips please bring back Salsa and Mesquite flavor because now I have remembered them I have a real craving for some!
