I am sure that most people are familiar with Swiss chocolate makers Lindt who are hugely popular in the UK. I have always loved their Lindor truffles and was very excited to see that a limited edition coconut flavor has been released in the UK. This flavor is exclusive to Sainsbury's and the 200g boxes are currently on offer with a third off at £3.05.
Coconut Lindor come in a turquoise coloured box and each truffle is individually wrapped in a metallic wrapper of the same color. My box contained 16 chocolates and there is no calorie information on the packaging...I don't suppose this means that they are free from calories...oh how I can dream.
According to the Lindt website, Lindor was first introduced as a tablet and didn't appear in it's familiar ball form until 1967. It was designed as a special Christmas edition and the red foil wrapper with white lace pattern made them ideal Christmas decorations. Lindor balls were so well received that they became part of the regular Lindor range and are actually now the most successful Lindt product. Interestingly the recipe has remained unchanged ever since and Lindor is now sold in more than 100 countries.
The idea of a Lindor truffle is that you bite into the harder chocolate shell and then are presented with an "irresistibly smooth" truffle center which melts in your mouth. The outside of the ball-shaped truffle is milk chocolate, and this is quite thick. I adore Lindt milk chocolate as it is so smooth and creamy; but the best part about Coconut Lindor is the delicious white chocolate and coconut center...pure heaven! The coconut flavouring is strong but not over-powering and mixed with the white chocolate which has a hint of vanilla to it, it is a very nice combination indeed. Usually I am not a fan of mixing 2 different sorts of chocolates but actually the milk chocolate shell works really well with the very sweet white centre, it helps to tone it down a little.
Verdict
I guess that it was kind of predictable that I would be bigging up something coconut flavoured, so no surprises when I say that Lindor Coconut are absolutely the best Lindor flavor ever!
