Maryland Gooeys - Hazelnut
I purchased these hazelnut flavoured Maryland Gooeys in Asda the other day as they appear to be new and were only £1. You get 10 cookies in the packet and the recommended serving of 2 biscuits is 158 calories.

Maryland Cookies are made by Burton's Biscuits who also make lots of other very popular biscuits such as Cadbury Chocolate Fingers, Wagon Wheels and Jammy Dodgers. Maryland Cookies were first baked in the UK in 1956 with a secret recipe that was introduced from the US. Apparently Maryland is bought by more than 1 in 4 households in the UK...that's a lot of biscuits!

Gooeys appear to be very similar to a standard Maryland chocolate chip cookie but of course they come  with an added gooey chocolate hazelnut center. The cookie is a lovely golden brown and I would say that it was ever so slightly softer than the normal Maryland chocolate chip cookies.
I like the way that a Maryland Cookie is crumbly rather than crunchy and I like that it sort of melts in the mouth. They always seem to have a decent amount of chocolate chips and it is the same with these Gooeys. There is a good amount of the chocolate filling within the cookie, but there is a problem...I could not taste hazelnut at all!

Verdict  You cannot compare these with a higher end luxury cookie but when it comes to biscuit barrel chocolate chip cookies, Maryland is usually my brand of choice. I was expecting something a bit more special with these Gooeys but I was a bit underwhelmed. The filling was a great idea but the lack of hazelnut flavor was disappointing. REVIEW!
