REVIEW! Maynard's Sour Patch Kids
I keep hearing about Maynards Sour Patch Kids and how awesome they are so when I saw this bag in Asda the other day I thought it would be rude not to give them a go.  They look like Jelly Babies only not as chunky; well most of them do, I am not sure what is going on with the orange one on the end.  Anyway I love sour sweets so the fact that these are described as "sour then sweet" really appealed to me.
REVIEW! Maynard's Sour Patch KidsThis bag is 160g and you can have a third of it for 175 calories but they also sell smaller individual bags.  They come in 5 different flavours, which are lime, lemon, orange, raspberry and blackcurrant and originate from the US.  Apparently they are the top selling "sour" brand in the States and it seems that they come in a lot more flavours over there including watermelon, peach, cherry and sour apple to name a few.  The even did an Easter version called Sour Patch Bunnies and also Sour Patch Christmas Kids.
There is a quite a bit of sugar on these sweets but I guess this is where the sour part comes in.  You would think reading reviews on Amazon that these sweets were going to be something savage but they really aren't.  Yes they are a little sour but some of these reviews really are being dramatic and once the sourness has gone which is almost straightaway, they are very sweet.  To me they tasted like a slightly sour version of Wine Gums which is unsurprising given that Maynards make these too.
Verdict
I don't get what all the hype is about with these sweets.  They tasted nice but we've had Haribo Tangfastics in the UK for along time and I personally prefer those and think that they have more of a sour kick to them.
