I was approached by a PR company the other day who asked me if I would like to review McCain Quick Cook French Fries. This is a new product which cooks in the oven, from frozen in just 5 minutes! I accepted the opportunity to review these chips because I was curious, I've never known frozen chips of any kind to cook that quickly in the oven.
McCain Quick Cook French Fries are cut from specially selected potatoes and prepared with sunflower oil. They are available in a 750g bag and the recommended retail price is £2.50. 100g of frozen chips contains 222 calories.

The instructions on the packet say to pre-heat the oven, place the French Fries on to a tray and bake for 5 minutes. I did exactly that and look...lovely golden French Fries!

I have to say that I was majorly impressed, not only were they cooked to perfection but they tasted awesome. I've cooked Frozen French Fries in the oven before and found them to be dry but these Quick Cook French Fries from McCain were light, crispy and very tasty. Mr Review Addict was also impressed and he thinks that they are nicer than the fries from a very popular fast food chain!Verdict McCain's Quick Cook French Fries are a fantastic idea, they are so quick to cook that you really could knock up a meal in minutes and much nicer than microwave chips. If you were thinking of popping out for takeaway, why bother? By the time you drive there, you could have cooked these yourself!
