Monstersweets.co.uk very kindly sent me this Nestle BabyRuth bar to review. The BabyRuth is a very famous American chocolate bar and I had always assumed that it was named after the baseball player Babe Ruth but according to wikipedia it was actually named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter Ruth Cleveland. Apparently one of the early promotions for this bar involved a plane dropping thousands of Baby Ruth bars with mini parachutes over Pittsburgh. That is probably one of the most awesome things ever...why can't they come and drop chocolate bars with mini parachutes over Bracknell?
The BabyRuth is knobbly in appearance and apparently it contains 4g of protein. It weighs 59g and contains 280 calories. It is made from peanuts, caramel and chocolate flavoured nougat which is all coated in milk chocolate.
It looked very similar to the Hershey's Nutrageous but it tasted much nicer although not as nutty. The outside peanut layer was crunchy and then the center was chewy. There was no fluffy nougat here like in a Milky Way, it is a much thicker consistency but quite tasty. The chocolate on this bar is nicer than Hershey's but not as good as what we have here in the UK.
Verdict BabyRuth is a nice bar, I enjoyed it but not as much as our equivalent which I guess would be a Snickers? That said if you are into your peanuty American chocolate then it is definitely worth a go and Monster Sweets are selling the BabyRuth for £1.25 along with lots of other famous American chocolate bars and European ones too!
