I was recently sent a box of goodies from Soreen and one of the items was this Banana Malt Loaf. I'd not tried any sort of Malt Loaf before but I am a big fan of banana cake so I quite liked the sound of this. Usually a loaf is around £1.20 but I did notice that Tesco currently has an offer with them priced at £1. One 10th of the loaf is 89 calories and it is suitable for vegetarians.
The loaf was very moist and soft which made it quite difficult to cut without squashing it. The texture was very dense and chewy but it smelt lovely. The banana flavor is quite strong but pleasant and it's a genuine banana taste. It does have a hint of "fruit cake" and I am not the biggest fan of fruit cake so that was little disappointing as I had expected more of a banana cake.
VerdictBanana Malt Loaf wasn't bad and with a layer of Nutella it was a lot nicer. I don't think I would be convinced to buy it again over a normal banana cake despite the fact that it's quite low in fat so probably better for you.
