I did the food shopping in Tesco this week and was utterly disgusted to find that they had sold out of Nutella! I almost cried but then I spotted this...Sun-Pat Choc-a-Nut Peanut Spread! I first heard about this product on Kev's Snack Reviews back in August and I have been on the hunt for it ever since. I think I may have now forgiven Tesco for the lack of Nutella.
Ever since I was a kid I have mixed peanut butter with chocolate spread, usually my beloved Nutella, or once upon a time you could buy Snickers spread which was pretty amazing but I haven't seen it in years. I honestly have no idea why you can't buy it anymore!
Anyway I was keen to give this Sun-Pat spread a go, even though as Kev points out in his review that it's not really a mix of 2 spreads but more of a peanut butter with added cocoa. A 340g jar cost me £2.25 and 100g contains 562 calories.
The spread smells just like standard peanut butter and it is the same consistency too; thick but smooth. I like Sun-Pat peanut butter as it's not too greasy like some other brands. The added cocoa tasted good, especially on a hot piece of toast; it was very hard to just have one slice! The cocoa flavor is quite strong and although it's not actual chocolate, I did really enjoy it.
Verdict
I will definitely buy Sun-Pat Choc-a-Nut Peanut Spread again and I would love to see a crunchy version! Although I am awarding 5 stars I will say that it doesn't beat Nutella. But hang on...what if I was to mix them...
