REVIEW! Tayto Milk Chocolate Bar with Cheese and Onion Crisps
Posted on the 15 August 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictYes you did read that title correctly, this is a chocolate bar that contains cheese and onion crisps! When I was a kid I used to love eating chocolate and crisps together, in fact one of my favorite snacks was to get a Cadbury's Chocolate Finger and thread Hula Hoops on to it...trust me it's awesome, although it can be quite tricky to make the Hula Hoops fit if you get lots of the flatter ones.
Anyway it seems I am not alone in enjoying this strange combination of crisps and chocolate because Irish Crisp makers Tayto have created this unusual chocolate bar containing their signature cheese and onion crisps.
I purchased this bar from eBay and have to admit I did pay a rather large sum in my opinion for such a small amount of chocolate (35g) but I couldn't resist giving it a try. The bar came in 10 squares and when snapped it was easy to see the small pieces of crisps scattered throughout.
I was expecting this one to go either way, a really awesome tasting bar or something incredibly hideous. Sadly it was neither and to be honest I just found it a little bit boring. The milk chocolate is ok, certainly nothing amazing and the cheese and onion crisps just made it taste a bit weird rather than adding any interesting dimensions to the flavours. There was just a slight hint of cheese but I didn't really taste the onion part and it wasn't salty either which is what I was looking for from this bar.
Verdict A bit of a disappointment from this Tayto chocolate bar. I think it would have worked better with ready salted crisps (I forgot to say that they were ready salted Hula Hoops with the Chocolate Fingers). I also think it needed more of the crisps for a more crunchy texture and I think that this would have given a nice contrast between sweet and salty which is what I was hoping for all along.
