REVIEW! Tesco Finest All Butter Rose Biscuits For Tea
Posted on the 10 November 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictI have to admit that I was wary when this box of biscuits arrived from Tesco for me to review. The thought of eating something rose flavoured actually filled me with dread if I am completely honest. I love roses as in the flowers but rose flavoured biscuits is not something that I would ever contemplate buying...but this is why I love reviewing things because it means that sometimes I do get to try things that I would never normally consider.
Tesco Finest All Butter Rose Biscuits For Tea is another addition to the Finest range which has recently been relaunched with over 400 new products. They are baked at a Dorset bakery where the same family has been baking for 3 generations. The 150g box which costs £1.99 contains 8 square shaped biscuits which are 90 calories each.
They are an all butter shortbread and I could see the sugar on top, glistening in the light. I was expecting them to smell quite fragrant and flowery but I couldn't really smell much other than shortbread!
These biscuits are intended to go with a cup of tea as the box suggests but I don't drink tea so I had mine with a coffee and I was surprised at how lovely they tasted. I love shortbread but I had visions of being over-powered by the floral flavour, something similar to Turkish delight which I absolutely cannot stand. However these biscuits were delicious, the rose flavor was subtle and actually quite complimentary to the shortbread which was rich, buttery and sweet. The texture was crumbly but still had a bit of crunch and I soon found myself reaching for another one!
Verdict These are very unusual biscuits but surprisingly good. Something about them seemed quite lady-like and I could see these being served at a posh afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches and scones!
