REVIEW! Tesco Finest Belgian Chocolate Yule Log
Posted on the 15 December 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictOne of my favorite things about Christmas is Yule Log, it's been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I don't ask for much but I do have to make sure that I get at least one in December. A lot of people don't understand my excitement and they tell me that it is basically a chocolate Swiss roll or a chocolate sponge cake and that you can get that all year round. Well people you are wrong!
A proper yule log only comes at Christmas and is far superior to any Swiss roll! It has that delicious thick fudgey icing on the outside which gives it the log effect and something about the swirls of sponge and buttercream make it taste so much nicer than a regular chocolate sponge.
So as you can imagine I was particularly excited to review this Tesco Finest Hand Decorated Belgian Chocolate Yule Log! I was sent some vouchers from Tesco so that I could pick this up in store but it usually costs £4. It serves 8 with a serving containing 275 calories.
The yule log is hand rolled and hand finished with a Belgian milk chocolate ganache. It looks fantastic and I was pleased to see that it had properly finished ends with icing completely covering the sponge. There was always fights over these end pieces when we were kids with my mom usually having to try and equally divide them between myself and my 2 younger brothers.
The sponge was suitably chocolatey, buttery and moist with plenty of buttercream. The layer of Belgian chocolate ganache was deliciously thick and it tasted silky smooth with an extra bit of sweetness from the dusting of icing sugar. I liked that there was another layer of buttercream between the outer part of the sponge and the ganache and it made this yule log even more indulgent.
Verdict
Tesco Finest have done a fantastic job with this yule log. I can't give it anything other than full marks because I enjoyed it so much!
