REVIEW! Tesco Finest Dominican Republic 85% Dark Chocolate
Posted on the 31 October 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictTesco have recently relaunched their Finest range and this means that there are new products to try! They very kindly sent me samples of some of these to review and it probably doesn't surprise you that the first product that I tried was chocolate related!
Tesco Finest Dominican Republic 85% Dark Chocolate is priced at £1.50 for a 100g bar, but I noticed that my local store currently has an offer for 2 for £2 across the Tesco Finest 100g Chocolate bar range. As the name suggests, this bar contains 85% minimum cocoa solids and 2 of the large squares contains 125 calories.
I liked the packaging of this bar, it is very eye-catching with the black and green swirly pattern and I think that it looks more modern and more expensive than the older Tesco Finest chocolate bars. I also liked the fact that it was a cardboard packet so it was easy to get into but the foil wrapper inside kept it fresh.
Tesco chocolatiers have been making chocolate for over 60 years and this bar is made with cocoa beans from plantations in north central and east Domincan Republic. The chocolate had a nice crisp snap to it and was a lovely deep brown color.
Dark chocolate is something that I have only really started to enjoy in recent years. I used to find it too bitter but I have learnt over time that if it's good quality stuff then I really enjoy it and that was certainly the case with this bar. Despite the high cocoa content there was no bitterness at all and the texture was lovely and smooth. The packet describes the flavor as fruity and I would agree with that, there is definitely a fruity edge to it.
Verdict
This is a lovely dark chocolate from Tesco Finest which I enjoyed on it own but I also have to tell you that it makes awesome chocolate brownies! I made a batch using this chocolate and they went down a storm!
