REVIEW! Tesco Finest Japanese Style Stir Fry and Sauce
Posted on the 08 November 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictThis Japanese Style Stir Fry Vegetable mix from the new Tesco Finest range contains hand prepared vegetables inspired by the tastes of the Far East. The sauce is a traditional combination of orange, sesame seed, and Japanese Pepper
The vegetables are priced at £2.50 for the 220g container and the sauce which is 120g is £1.25. Both are found with the fresh produce and these are another 2 products that I selected to review when I was sent some vouchers from Tesco to spend on their new Tesco Finest range.
The stir fry mix is separated into 3 sections, this is because certain ingredients require a longer cooking time but it is very quick easy to prepare. I recommend using a Wok rather than a frying pan as I did because you may struggle to fit it all in! I cooked the vegetables as per the instructions on the packet and then stirred in the Japanese Style sauce which smelt amazing.
I have never had butternut squash in a stir fry before and would have never thought to add it to one because I imagined that it would have been quite hard in texture with such a short cooking time. I was surprised at how lovely the texture was, it had a bit of crunch to it as did the other vegetables but it was lovely. There was also some tender stemmed broccoli, pepper, pak choi, kale and mooli which is a large East Asian radish. This is accompanied by salad onion, garlic and chill to give it a bit of a kick. I enjoyed all of these vegetables except for the kale which to be honest was bit too chewy for my liking.
The sauce was delicious, the orange flavor was quite subtle but the sesame really came through. It was also quite hot which I really enjoyed, that must have been the Japanese 7 Spice!
Verdict
This stir fry and the sauce would be delicious with some chicken thrown in and served with some noodles or rice. I liked that the garlic and chill was included with the vegetables as even without the sauce, they had a bit more flavor than your standard stir fry mix. There is also a Thai Style and an Oriental Style sauce in this range with stir fry packs to match.
