REVIEW! Tesco Finest Mexican Bento Box
Posted on the 28 November 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictIf you have read my other recent reviews you will know that I have been sampling the new Tesco Finest range after they very kindly sent me some vouchers to purchase some of the new products. I love Mexican food so I really liked the sound of this Tesco Finest Mexican Bento Box.
Bento boxes are traditionally from Japan but translated Bento means "convenient" and that is the idea behind this prepared meal. It is priced at £3.85 and contains 475 calories.
The container is split into 4 sections: Spicy chilli and pimento British outdoor-bred pulled pork in a sun-dried tomato sauce; chipotle roasted vegetable succotash; coriander, spinach and parsley rice; and 4 mini wheat flour wraps.
To heat the meal you just pop the tray in the microwave, minus the wraps for around 4 and a half minutes. The wraps then go in separately for around 25 seconds.
The beauty of this dish is that you can prepare it however you like, perhaps dip the wraps into the other dishes or I was considering having the rice on the side. In the end I decided to put a bit of everything on a wrap and just roll it up.
Every part of this meal was delicious and so full of flavour! The pulled pork had a real kick to it and I loved the smokey taste which was fantastic with the vegetables with also had a fair bit of heat to them. The coriander flavor in the rice was strong, just how I like it and it complimented the other element of the meal perfectly.
Verdict
I love the versatility of this meal and that despite containing less than 500 calories, it was really filling. Be warned though, it does pack quite a bit of heat so if that is not your thing then give it a miss or have some ice cream on standby for dessert!
