REVIEW! Tesco Finest Wild Mushroom Open Ravioli
Posted on the 22 November 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictThere are some new chilled prepared meals in the Tesco Finest range and I was sent some vouchers so that I was able to give them a try. I really liked the sound of this Wild Mushroom Open Ravioli as I am having a bit a of a mushroom phase at the moment and after the tastiness of the Tesco Finest Stuffed Forestiere Mushrooms that I reviewed the other day, I had high hopes for this dish.
The open ravioli is made using a mix of wild mushrooms, spinach and onion, wrapped in free egg range pasta sheets and coated in an Italian white wine sauce. It is finished with a sprinkle of pecorino cheese, parsley and Black Summer truffle butter. It takes 25 minutes in the oven (it is not microwaveable), serves 1 and is suitable for vegetarians. It contains 540 calories and can be purchased as part of the A La Carte £20 meal deal, or on it's own for £6.
I have to admit that at first I thought that this was a little pricey for a supermarket prepared meal, especially since it only serves 1...BUT once I tasted this dish I decided that it was well worth the money! The mushrooms were delicious, I just love the strong flavours of wild mushrooms and the pasta tasted nice and fresh. The sauce was rich and creamy and I could certainly taste the white wine.
I had the ravioli with a salad and I was quite impressed with the portion size of this dish. Usually I find myself starving after a supermarket prepared meal as the portions are small but I was actually nicely full up after this.
VerdictDespite being at the high end of what I would usually pay for a prepared meal, I would definitely purchase this dish again as a treat. I visited a well known Italian chain the other day and Tesco Finest Wild Mushroom Open Ravioli easily rivalled the pasta dish that I had there. So if you like mushrooms and fancy a bit of a treat and a night in, definitely give this a go! I have to say that I never thought that I would be awarding a prepared dish like this 5 stars...but I am!
