There has been a bit of a buzz about these ice cream inspired chocolates so I couldn't wait to try them for myself. Kev's Snack Reviews featured the mini Magnum chocolates and Katherine from Grocery Gems has reviewed all 3 of the chocolates. One of my readers also contacted me to let me know that they were in the shops so it seems that everyone is getting excited about them.
I found these like Katherine and Kev, in the chocolate section of Asda by the checkouts and they were priced at 50p for the Cornetto, 40p for the mini milk and 65p for the Magnums.
The Cornetto is described as vanilla flavoured white chocolate truffle in a wafer cone with chocolate flavoured coating and caramelised hazelnut pieces. I would say that it is about the 3rd of the size of a standard Cornetto ice cream. It contains 110 calories (5.5 Syns for Slimming World followers) and absolutely no ice cream!
This little chocolate is so cute, it is basically a small version of a Cornetto Ice cream but with the truffle instead of the ice cream, it even has that nice bit of milk chocolate at the end of the cone. The vanilla filling was lovely, it reminded me a bit of the filling in the vanilla version of Cadbury Egg 'n' Spoon, sweet and light. The wafer and the nuts really complimented it well.
Apparently there is a milk chocolate version of these little Mini Milk chocolates but I could only find this white chocolate version. It contains 90 calories (4.5 Syns) and apparently also contains 30% of your daily recommended calcium intake.
It is a pretty basic white chocolate lollipop with a softer white chocolate filling. It is very sweet with a vanilla taste and I imagine that kids would love this chocolate.
Last but not least is the mini Magnum chocolates. I am a big fan of the Magnum ice creams so I was pretty excited about these. The outside is quite a thick milk chocolate and then inside is a vanilla flavoured white chocolate truffle. You get 3 chocolates in the packet and each one contains 66 calories or 3.5 Syns.
The outside chocolate is of good quality and truffle was similar in taste to the filling in the mini Cornetto but with a more creamy texture.
Verdict I enjoyed all of these ice cream inspired chocolates but my favorite has to be the Cornetto as it was the tastiest and the most interesting of the bunch. I would definitely buy it again and would probably buy the Magnum chocolates again too. The Mini Milk was nice but not exciting enough for me to choose it over other white chocolate bars.
