Weight Watchers Biscuits
The other day I reviewed Weight Watchers Caramel Wafers and today I am reviewing some more biscuits from Weight Watchers.
Weight Watchers Oat Digestive Biscuits
First up we have Oat Digestive biscuits which contain oat flakes and wheat bran. These are 84 calories for 2 biscuits (or 2 ProPoints) and cost around 90p for a box of 12 which is made up from 6 individually wrapped packets of 2.
The texture was quite hard, I would say harder than a normal digestive and they were definitely not as sweet but I guess you would expect this from a "diet" biscuit, overall they were a bit bland. Normal Digestives are around 71 calories for 1 biscuit so you are making a fairly big calorie saving with the Weight Watchers version.
Weight Watchers Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
The Double Chocolate Chip cookies were pretty nice. These also come in a box of 12 and an individual pack of 2 will set you back 87 calories (2 ProPoints). Again, these are priced at around 90p.
Weight Watchers Ginger and Lemon Cookies
Ginger and Lemon cookies which are also around 90p for a box of 12 were also quite tasty. I wasn't getting much lemon but they were very similar to ginger nuts in texture and taste. These are 85 calories or 2 ProPoints for a pack of 2.
Weight Watchers Chocolate Digestives
Finally we have Weight Watchers Milk Chocolate Digestives which are made with Belgian chocolate. They cost around £1.59 and come in a pack of 12 but they are not individually wrapped like the other biscuits but instead come in a resealable packet. Each biscuit is 51 calories or 1 ProPoint. These tasted just OK, they are the same bland digestives with a bit of chocolate which helps a bit.
All of these biscuits are suitable for vegetarians but I am curious as to why the Chocolate Digestives are not in the individual packs like the others. I liked the idea of portion control with the other biscuits which makes things easier for people counting calories or ProPoints.
Although I did quite enjoy some of them, I think that my main issue with these Weight Watchers biscuits is the price. I will use a similar example as I did for the Caramel wafers and compare the Digestives to one of the big brands. With Weight Watchers you get 12 Digestives for 90p so 7.5p per biscuit whereas with the big brand Digestives an 80p pack contains around 16 biscuits so works out 5p per biscuit. The same goes for the Chocolate Digestives; 12 Weight Watchers biscuits work at £1.59 which is 13.2p per biscuits, the big brand chocolate Digestives are £1.35 for a 300g pack which contains around 18 biscuits so 7.5p per biscuit.
VerdictTaste-wise they were not bad and I think the idea of pre pointed food is probably convenient for followers of Weight Watchers or people who have issues with portion control, but personally I would rather eat less of the more calorific "real thing". I do think that Weight Watchers should look at the pricing of the biscuits, I definitely think that there is a place in the market for these products but shoppers are a lot more savvy these days and these biscuits are just not good value for money compared to the other brands.REVIEW!
