When Whiteys approached me and asked if I would like to review their gourmet popcorn, I jumped at the chance. There is a bit of a trend for gourmet popcorn at the moment and that is fantastic as I just can't get enough of the stuff.
Whiteys is based in Cheshire and run by Mark (Whitey). His popcorn is available in 4 flavours: Original, Maplecorn, Cinnamon Sweet and Cocoa Original which I am reviewing today. Mark makes his popcorn in a big metal container with no lid and he looks quite funny in all his protective gear (no offense Mark), but if you watch the videos on the website of him making this stuff you will see why he wears it!
This Cocoa Original popcorn comes in a huge 100g bag and is made with all natural ingredients, the list is very simple: corn, corn oil, sugar, cocoa and salt.

When I opened the bag I could immediately smell the cocoa and it smelt gorgeous. The popcorn was lovely and fresh and perfectly popped. It was big fluffy pieces with absolutely no kennels left in the bottom of the bag.
The taste was really interesting, I was expecting it to be really sweet and chocolatey but it also had a saltiness to it. The combination works really well and the balance between the sweet and salty is just right.
You can buy 4 bags from Whitey's online store for £13 which is very reasonable compared to some other gourmet brands that sell tiny little bags for more!
Verdict This really is good popcorn, it was very moreish and the hubby and I polished off the bag between us pretty quickly. Mr Review Addict reckons that this is the best popcorn that he has ever had and I absolutely cannot fault it. Top marks and I can't wait to try the other flavours which I will be reviewing very soon.
