REVIEW! Wild Ophelia Sweet Cherry Pecan Milk Chocolate Bar
Posted on the 20 December 2013 by Thereviewaddict @TheReviewAddictThis is the last of the chocolate that I brought back from Orlando...sad times. This Sweet Cherry Pecan bar is from American Chocolate Maker Wild Ophelia. There were quite a few interesting bars from this company that I spotted in Walgreens including Peanut Butter and Banana, BBQ Potato Chips and a Beef Jerky bar! I was tempted to buy them all but having already spent a fortune on chocolate to take home I limited myself to just one bar. I liked the simple yet eye catching packaging of the Wild Ophelia bars and the combination of cherry and pecan sounded too good to miss.
Wild Ophelia chocolate features all natural ingredients and they apparently aim to bridge the divide between chocolate makers and the local American farmers movement. On the back of the bar it tells you a little bit about the ingredients used which I think is a nice touch.
The 57g bar is in 3 sections, 3 sort of mini bars. Ideal for limiting yourself from eating the whole thing but not quite so ideal for sharing as there could be an argument over the last piece. The milk chocolate contains 41% cocoa solids and 18% milk solids.
The milk chocolate was nice, it was creamy and smooth however the cherry and pecan flavor was, I have to say a bit disappointing. There were no big chunks which is what I had expected but just some very sparsely scattered tiny pieces of dried cherry. These were chewy but they didn't add much in the way of flavor and the pecans didn't really come through either, in fact I barely noticed that they were there.
VerdictMaybe it was because I was in a tourist area and I can't remember the exact amount I paid but I remember thinking that this bar was expensive so I had quite high hopes when I saw the unusual flavours. Yes the chocolate was nice but for a bar that had so much potential to be awesome, I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed.
