Saturday Morning Breakfast

One of the most comforting things about going home is knowing that things never change. I know that no matter how much my brothers and I grow up my parents’ house will always be exactly as we left it.

Luckily for me that has meant that the Saturday morning breakfasts that I cherished so much growing up are still served every time that I go home and this Saturday was no different.

The hubby and I woke up to the sounds of my Mom and Dad slaving away at breakfast in the kitchen. Two decades later and they are still spoiling me.

Weekends started in our house with a home cooked breakfast served on our kitchen island. As we drenched our waffles or French toast in syrup, we sat around and talked about our lives. While we may all have grown up and left the house, each of us kids knows that if we come by Saturday morning Mom and Dad will have breakfast waiting.

I thought maybe the trend would die off after we moved out of the house but it’s only grown to include more people over the years. Now we’ve got my hubby added to the mix and my sister-in-law and nephew–which means more pancakes and more work for my parents, but also a lot more love and stories around the kitchen table.

This Saturday’s specialty was these amazing crepes that my Dad loves to make, served with fresh fruit and jam.

They were every bit as delicious as they look.

And they were made even more delicious by the fact that I got to share them with a few of my favorites.

Even though I’m 26 years old, there is still something really comforting about eating a home cooked breakfast at my parents’ kitchen table. The world may be crumbling down around us but I know that Mom and Dad will still be there to make me some waffles every Saturday morning.
