I'll start with the weekend and work to now. At the station, me, Jeff, and Zeller had been talking about getting together and throwing back some cold ones for a while. Jeff and Zeller both not only have a taste for good beer but have also done home brewing in the past. (Yeah, we get along great) So I picked up Zeller and we drove out to Jeff's for one of those really good, really chill, kick back kind of nights where you're just enjoying good beer, having good conversation with good people and enjoying your day off. And with Guinness, Shock Top, Santo, Shiner, Ziegenbock, Fireman's 4, Jeff's batch of pumpkin beer, Magic Hat #9 (pictured left. How did I never incorporate that awesome logo into a shirt when I was at station 9???) along with several other beers from Jeff's collection, throw in some jalapeño poppers, chips, salsa and wings it's hard to not have a great time. And thats exactly what we did. Zeller even brought a spoon so we could float the Guinness. Thanks to that we had a Guinness/Magic Hat ("Black Magic"), a Guinness/Santo ("Santo Jackson"), and a Guinness/Fireman's 4 ("Mitchell Poe"). That last one is named after a black veteran firefighter at my old station. Total inside joke. Sorry. Have I mentioned how much I love floating Guinness and naming the concoctions? Zeller suggested a photo book to end all photo books with nothing but Guinness floats. Great idea. I can already see it. "Dont Be Afraid of the Dark: Adventures Floating Guinness, by ejc". [Yeah I think I smell a side project] ;)
Aaaaand let's fast forward to today, shall we? I'm driving Engine 7 and we've had a good shift. I would've never thought I'd see homemade sushi rolls for chow at the station but we pulled it off. Good stuff too. Me has always rikey'd sushi so I was all for the idea. (Note to self: think about trying this at home. get back to me later) Then to close out the evening we had a group of 1st grade boy scouts come tour the station.
Love that. Wide eyed kids looking at fire trucks up close never gets old. Jeff and Zeller were both acting Captains today so they handled the tour and the kids loved it. And that's been our shift so far. Just one more shift after this and ill be on vacation. Suhweet. New Orleans here i come. Im sure ill get some good pics from that getaway. (If you dont take pics in New Orleans you'll never remember what happened.) As for the present, Ladder 7 got back from a call not too long ago so that means Engine 7 is up. I'm tired. Hopefully we have a good night. We'll see. I love my job :) Nite.
