The Taming of the Snob

Posted on the 11 March 2012 by Latinaprpro @latinaprpro
It's no secret that I am a make-up snob.
Besides the occasional eyebrow pencil, throw-away mascara and what-was-I-thinking lipstick, I never buy any cosmetic from a drug-store or big box retailer.
So imagine my concern when I was approached by Covergirl to try-out their Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehad 2-in-1 Foundation?!
Being completely unfamiliar with the brand, outside of their mascara that I received as a CVS Swag item at BlogHer, I intentionally stayed away from reading any reviews or information outside of their website.
I wanted my experience to be uniquely my own and my review to be real.
The "introduction"
The way I picked my color was going to the website for the brand I normally buy, and compare their foundation color ...
The Taming of the Snob
... to the Covergirl foundation color.
The Taming of the Snob
Although the color wasn't a perfect match to what I normally buy, it was the closest color match - albeit slightly lighter.
The "outside"
My first impression of the product is that the container, something that I normally also consider when buying cosmetics, didn't feel luxe, but definitely didn't feel cheap.
The pump, although it (seemingly) released a lot of the product in one pump, gave the perfect amount for my face when I used my fingers to apply the product.
The "inside"

The texture of the foundation seemed a little dry at first, but the product spread smoothly over my tinted sunscreen and dried quickly.
I was a bit concerned that the lighter color would be, well, too light.  But I was shocked to see that the color blended perfectly into my skin tone.  (now making me wonder if my usual product is too dark!)
Surprisingly, the scent of the foundation was unbelievably decadent!  As my friend shared with me, "most foundations smell more like plastic, whereas this one definitely had a sweet fragrance."
The foundation definitely has a lightweight feel; medium, yet natural coverage.
Maybe it's because of this light feel, that my face felt almost nude after five hours of wearing the product and needed a touch-up?
TIPS
  • Use less product when using a brush
  • The product blends better with your fingers (versus brush application)
  • Do not use a makeup primer before using the foundation
  • Use concealer in areas of your face needing additional coverage over the foundation

Finished with my own translucent powder,
cheek stain, lipstick and liner/mascara.

The "score"
From a 1-10 scale, 10 being the best:
8 - "Look" of the container
8 - "Feel" of the product during application
8 - "Wear" of the product
6 - "Last" of the product
Overall:  I "liked" the product and will continue to use it on days that I don't need to "keep my face on" for more than a few hours, or have time to reapply/refresh my make-up mid-day.
In terms of the brand, I am pleasantly surprised and will consider trying other Covergirl products.
